Susquehanna Unit 2 Returns to Service

Unit 2 at the Susquehanna nuclear plant near Berwick returned to service Saturday (6/13) following a six-day shutdown to replace a seal in a pump in the reactor water recirculation system.

"During the outage, plant personnel also performed other maintenance work that can only be done while the unit is shut down," said Herbert D. Woodeshick, special assistant to the president for PP&L, Inc., operator of the plant.

The maintenance work went smoothly, he added, enabling the unit to return to service a day ahead of schedule.

"Effective outages like this one help to ensure that Unit 2 safely generates the maximum amount of electricity for our customers," Woodeshick said.

The Susquehanna plant, jointly owned by PP&L, Inc., and Allegheny Electric Cooperative, Inc., is located about five miles northeast of Berwick along Route 11.
