PP&L Crews Making Progress; Repair Work in Honesdale Will Take Additional Time

PP&L, Inc., line crews continue to make progress in their restoration efforts in the company's service area. Harrisburg area service is back to normal. Crews hope to restore service in areas surrounding Lancaster by late Tuesday (6/2).

Customers in Lock Haven, Bloomsburg and Williamsport should have service restored by Wednesday afternoon (6/3).

However, because of the extensive damage in the Honesdale, Hamlin and Scranton communities of the northeast, crews don't expect to complete their work there until Thursday (6/4). The area was hard hit by high winds, including a tornado. More than 35 poles will have to be replaced as well as more than two miles of downed power lines.

As of late this afternoon, about 35,000 PP&L, Inc. customers remain without power. Overall, 119,000 customers were without power as the result of storms late Sunday (5/31) and early Monday (6/1). These storms were among the worst in PP&L, Inc.'s history.

Robert M. Geneczko, vice president for Power Delivery for PP&L, Inc., praised the efforts of the PP&L, Inc., employees involved in the restoration work.

"Our crews are putting forth a tremendous effort and continue to make headway in bringing customers back into service," Geneczko said. "But in Honesdale, our crews unfortunately face the task of rebuilding part of our delivery system, including installing new poles. This takes a great deal of manpower and equipment."

He said crews as far away as Virginia and as close by as Citizens Electric in Lewisburg have come to PP&L, Inc.'s aid in the restoration work.

"We continue to ask our customers' patience as our crews work as quickly, and safely, as possible to restore power," Geneczko said.

Anyone who sees a downed wire should assume it is a power line, and that it is energized. They should stay away from it, tell others to stay away and notify PP&L, Inc., by calling 1-800-DIAL-PPL (1-800-342-5775).
