PP&L, Inc. crews continue to make progress in restoring service to customers in the Promised Land/Pecks Pond area of the Poconos. Crews expect to finish restoring service late Friday night (6/5) or Saturday in that area.
PP&L, Inc., customers there can obtain dry ice free of charge to keep perishables cold until they have electricity for their refrigerators and freezers. They can obtain the dry ice at the Promised Land Volunteer Fire Co. Anyone handling dry ice should wear gloves.
"We thank our customers for their patience and understanding," said William J. Bergstresser, community development director for Honesdale. "Strong winds, including a tornado in the Promised Land/Pecks Pondarea of the Poconos, knocked down trees, snapped poles and tore down powerlines."
All available PP&L crews have been working around the clock since Sunday evening to restore service. Also, crews from utilities in Virginia and New Jersey are assisting in restoration efforts along with several line and tree contractors. Work is expected to be completed in the Hamlin and Honesdale area by 11 p.m. Thursday (6/4) and in the Scranton area by 6 a.m. Wednesday (6/3), Bergstresser said.
The rest of the Pocono Mountains area was expected to have electrical service restored by late Tuesday (6/2).
