Demand for electricity by PP&L, Inc., customers was high Wednesday afternoon (7/22) because of the continuing heat wave, but did not set a summer record for electricity use.
Preliminary figures indicate that PP&L, Inc., customers used 5,767 kilowatt-hours of electricity between 5 and 6 p.m. That was under the existing summer record of 6,046,000 kilowatt-hours, set on July 15, 1997. The all-time record for PP&L, Inc., customers is 6,607,000 kilowatt-hours, set on Feb. 6, 1996.
"Demand is very high, but we continue to have enough electricity to meet our customers' needs because of the strong performance of our power plants," said Doug Myers, supervisor of Transmission & Distribution Operations for PP&L, Inc.
He also credited customers for heeding the call to use energy wisely. Their actions helped ensure that enough electricity would be available to meet the demand.
High demand for electricity will continue until the heat wave breaks, Myers noted.
