PP&L, Inc., Executive Receives National Leadership Award

A PP&L, Inc., executive has won national recognition for his tireless efforts to help the community — both at work, and at home.

Lou Ramos, manager of Community Affairs, has received the coveted Eagle Award from the National Eagle Leadership Institute in Kansas City, Mo. The award recognizes Black and Hispanic professionals for their leadership, professional accomplishments and community outreach.

PP&L, Inc.'s strong commitment to its communities is exemplified in Ramos, who works full time in community service while at work, then spends countless off-hours on other service and leadership activities.

"Lou Ramos is among the most dedicated and hard-working community leaders I know," said William F. Hecht, PP&L, Inc., chairman, president and chief executive officer. "He is driven to make the communities in our service areas better places to live, and all of us benefit from that."

As a PP&L, Inc., employee, Ramos has taken a leadership role in such groups as the Community Action Development Corp., Allentown; the Downtown Allentown Kiwanis Club; the Tri-Chamber Hispanic Business Council, Lehigh Valley; the Allentown School District Leadership Alliance; the President's Advisory Council Board, Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales; Valley Youth House; Lehigh Valley Business Partnership; and Latino Alliance of the Lehigh Valley.

His off-hours community service work includes coaching two teenage soccer teams; serving on the finance committee of Holy Infancy Church, Bethlehem; and active work on the Lehigh University alumni fund-raising campaigns. He has won the Casa Guadalupe Community Service Award, and was named volunteer of the decade by Lehigh University.

Ramos also spearheaded the recent publication by the Hispanic Business Council, "Worlds of Business, The 1998 Ethnic Business Directory of the Lehigh Valley." The 72-page booklet lists more than 300 minority business owners in the area.

During his free time, Ramos enjoys family activities with his wife Sharon and their two children, Gregory and Jennifer. The family resides in Bethlehem.
