PP&L, Inc. advises its customers to be wary of people asking for money by posing as PP&L employees.
"We want to warn customers that PP&L employees don't come to customers' homes seeking payments for electricity or other services," said Don Stringfellow, community development director for Clinton and Lycoming counties. "We have had at least one report of this recently happening."
Stringfellow said PP&L is constantly on the outlook for scam artists claiming to be PP&L employees and trying to enter customers' homes or demanding money.
He said PP&L employees do not do electrical work inside customers' homes and do not collect money from customers. PP&L employees do not ask to enter customers' homes unless they have made an appointment with the customer in advance for a specific purpose.
All PP&L employees carry photo identification cards and will show them on request. The white plastic card includes PP&L's logo, the employee's name and photograph. In addition, many employees drive company vehicles with PP&L's logo on the side door.
Stringfellow told customers not to become victims. "Ask anyone claiming to be a PP&L employee for identification. An employee will gladly show that identification," Stringfellow advised. "Customers who are not sure of the visitor's identity should call PP&L toll-free at 1-800-DIALPPL (1-800-342-5775) to check."
