PP&L, Inc. has named Edward M. Stevens of Cleveland, Ohio, as general manager of its Corporate Communications department.

In this position, Stevens will have overall responsibility for PP&L's public relations, advertising and employee communications activities. The appointment was effective April 1.

"Ed brings to PP&L three decades of public relations and marketing communications experience and an understanding of the opportunities that the changing energy marketplace brings to our company," said Robert J. Grey, PP&L's senior vice president and general counsel. "We are extremely pleased that he has decided to join the PP&L team."

Since 1981, Stevens has been serving as group president/marketing communications for Dix & Eaton, Inc., Cleveland, Ohio, and Erie, Pa., a major independent public relations firm. He has worked with Dix & Eaton since 1969.

During his tenure at Dix & Eaton, Stevens served as director of Corporate Communications, on a loaned basis, for the Cleveland-based Centerior Energy, which is now part of FirstEnergy.

Stevens, a native of Cleveland, earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from John Carroll University in Cleveland. He is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America.
