PP&L Building to Display Holiday Lighting Designs Beginning Nov. 20

PP&L, Inc. will help kick off the holiday season when it turns on window decorations in its 322-foot high headquarters building.

The utility will light the building between 6:15 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Nov.20 during a lighting ceremony coors participation in that spirit, said Don Bernhard, PP&L's manager-Economic Development & Community Affairs.

"We're proud to say 'Happy Holidays' and to create a sense of identity for people who reside in and visit the Lehigh Valley," Bernhard said." PP&L's holiday decorations have proved to be very popular with our communities."

A design of a tree will be illuminated on the east side of the PP&L building and a design of a candle will be illuminated on the west side. A combination of colored fluorescent tubes and window shades will be used to create the two decorations, which will span 12 of the building's 23 stories, from the ninth to the 20th floors.

The headquarters building was built during the 1920s. It was lit in holiday designs from the 1950s through 1972, when the practice was suspended because of the energy crisis. The holiday lighting was resumed in 1990.

The light decorations use electricity efficiently, Bernhard said, noting that the fluorescent fixtures in each window require less wattage than incandescent bulbs and operate at a lower temperature.

The holiday lighting will continue each evening through Jan. 7.
