Federal, state and local agencies will participate in a demonstration of the emergency response plan for PP&L, Inc.'s Lake Wallenpaupack hydroelectric project during a drill Thursday (11/13).
As part of PP&L's comprehensive safety program, the company has a detailed emergency response plan for dealing with the unlikely event of a dam failure and related flooding. Tests of the plan are required every five years under the terms of PP&L's license from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The last test was conducted in 1992.
Lake Wallenpaupack, on the border of Wayne and Pike counties in the Pocono Mountains, was built by PP&L in 1926 to provide water for the nearby Wallenpaupack Hydroelectric Station.
Thursday's drill will not affect normal activities on or around the lake.
