Joanne H. Raphael, who has served in PP&L, Inc.'s office of general counsel for nine years, has been named the company's deputy general counsel.

In her new position, Raphael will have day-to-day responsibility for all the company's legal activities except regulatory matters. She continues to report to Robert J. Grey, the company's senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.

"Joanne has wide understanding of the many legal issues facing the company and is uniquely qualified to fill this new general manager-level position," said Grey.

Raphael is a graduate of Wellesley College and earned her law degree from Stanford Law School.

She began her career at PP&L in 1981 as a graduate assistant and worked in a number of positions before leaving to attend law school.

After earning her law degree, she worked for the firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Philadelphia before returning to PP&L in 1988 as an attorney.

A native of Perkasie, Raphael and her husband, Michael, live in Hilltown Township, Bucks County. The couple has two children, Ross and Leigh.
