Lower Dauphin is Tops Among 31 Teams in Electric Go-Cart Competition

A team from Lower Dauphin High School powered its way past 30 other teams from Pennsylvania high schools and technical schools to capture the overall winner's trophy in the fourth annual electric go-cart competition.

Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. and GPU Energy are primary sponsors of the event, with support from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and Carlisle Productions. The competition was held Thursday (5/15) at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Cumberland County.

Lower Dauphin also won the first-place trophy in the safety, quality and design category and in the endurance run category. Other first-place winners were the Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center in the oral presentation category and Carlisle High School in the acceleration run category.

Other winning teams were Warren County Career Center, second, and Donegal High School, Mount Joy, third, in safety, quality and design; Columbia-Montour Area Vocational Technical School, Bloomsburg, second, and Wallenpaupack Area High School, third, in oral presentation; Ephrata High School, second, and Donegal, third, in acceleration; and Ephrata, second, and Dieruff High School, Allentown, third, in endurance.

In addition to the schools that received trophies, each participating school received a plaque.
