The members of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1600 have ratified a one-year extension of their labor agreement with Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. The result of the ratification vote was announced Friday (5/16) by IBEW Local 1600.

The ratified agreement extends all the provisions of the current contract through May 17, 1998.

"We are pleased that the IBEW members have agreed to this extension, which will enable both the company and the union to more fully explore critical contractual issues in light of the rapidly increasing intensity of competition in the electricity business," said Bill Murray, PP&L's manager of Labor Relations.

IBEW Local 1600 represents 4,160 PP&L employees.
