PP&L Temporarily Closes Wago Road for Repair Work

A section of Wago Road in East Manchester Township will be temporarily closed beginning Monday (3/31) while Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. installs a new railroad crossing near its Brunner Island power plant.

A temporary roadway has been built to allow motorists to drive around the worksite, a distance of about 30 yards. PP&L expects to complete the work by April 4. The closed portion of Wago Road is expected to reopen to traffic April 5.

"We are sorry about the temporary inconvenience," said Kathleen A. Wildauer, PP&L's community development director for the East Manchester area. "We are taking every possible step to make sure that the work is done as quickly as possible."

The railroad tracks are used in the delivery of coal to the Brunner Island power plant. The crossing had settled, necessitating the repair work.

Both the repairs to the crossing and the design of the temporary road have been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Wildauer said.
