This spring, Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. is a sponsor of three separate conferences across the region that will explore the roles of women in business, at home and in the community.
Each of the three programs -- in Carlisle, Bethlehem and Lancaster -- enables area women in business to address issues important to their professional and personal lives.
PP&L's sponsorship reflects the initiative of individual women in professional positions at PP&L, and the company's interest in supporting community events on significant business and social issues.
The Greater Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce's fourth annual Central Pennsylvania Business Women's Forum and Expo will take place March 21, chaired by Kathleen A. Wildauer, PP&L community development director for the West Shore area. The forum will feature workshops, exhibits and two keynote speakers: state Rep. Patricia Huston Vance of Cumberland County and Deborah King, vice president of manufacturing for DuPont-Merck Pharmaceutical Co.
PP&L is a sponsor of the Spirit of Women 1997 conference, which will be in Bethlehem on April 3 and 4. Barbara Miller, manager of Document Management Services for PP&L, is on the steering committee for the conference, which will give business and professional women an opportunity to explore social, educational, economic and psychological issues facing women in the work force.
PP&L also is sponsoring the Spirit of Women Awards, which will be presented to women from the greater Lehigh Valley area who have made significant contributions in areas of work, family and health.
In Lancaster, the second Women Leaders Summit of Central Pennsylvania will be held May 8 at Franklin & Marshall College. The summit will bring together invited women who are community and business leaders to debate such important issues as health care, families and society, then propose solutions. PP&L will be represented by Karen R. Sheehe, key account manager in the Marketing & Economic Development Department.
Pennsylvania Power & Light Co., a subsidiary of PP&L Resources, Inc., provides electric service to 1.2 million homes and businesses in 29 counties of central eastern Pennsylvania.
