Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. reminds parents not to let their children play on or around electrical equipment.
"Now that school is out for the summer, children will be looking for places to play. They may be attracted to substation equipment, or poles and towers that support power lines. Children and electricity can be a recipe for needless tragedy," said Don Stringfellow, PP&L community development director for Clinton and Lycoming counties.
PP&L has received reports of children climbing a metal tower that supports a 69,000-volt power line in Lock Haven.
Children who play near electrical equipment are in danger of serious shock or electrocution. Climbing on utility poles or towers increases the danger by adding the risk of a fall, Stringfellow said.
If you see anyone who is not affiliated with PP&L climbing on or around electrical equipment in your neighborhood, immediately call the local police or PP&L’s toll-free number, 1-800 DIAL PPL (1-800-342-5775).
