PP&L Plans Power Outage to Replace Transformer in Poconos

About 4,000 Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. customers in the Pocono region will be without power for a short time Tuesday afternoon (1/28) while work crews replace a power supply transformer serving the Albrightsville area.

Power will be shut off at 1 p.m. so work crews can replace the transformer safely, said Paul J. Canevari, PP&L's community development director for the Pocono area. The outage, expected to last less than an hour, will affect the Sierra View, Eldo Lakes Estates , Mt. Pocohontas, Robin Hood Lakes, Recreation Village and Pleasant Valley Estates developments.

"Customers in those developments in Carbon and Monroe counties have shown great patience," he said. "Their cooperation in using electricity wisely helped us maintain power supply without one of the two main transformers serving the area."

The transformer, located at a PP&L substation near Albrightsville, has been out of service since Jan. 19. PP&L crews have been preparing since then to replace it.

"We ask customers for their understanding one more time," Canevari said. "After this short outage, we expect that power supply in the area will be back to normal."
