Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. and Local 1600 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers have tentatively agreed to a one-year extension of their labor agreement.
The present labor agreement is scheduled to expire on May 18 of this year. The new agreement, which must be ratified by Local 1600 membership, extends all the provisions of the current contract until May 17, 1998. The tentative agreement will be submitted to Local 1600 membership for a vote prior to the expiration of the current agreement.
"We are pleased that we were able to reach this tentative agreement several weeks before the current contract expires. The one-year extension will enable both parties to better understand the impact on company operations of the increasing intensity of competition in Pennsylvania's electricity business," said Mike Kroboth, PP&L's general manager-Human Resource & Development.
