Telemarketers promising that they can help cut energy costs for Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. customers in northeastern Pennsylvania are not affiliated with PP&L's Winter Relief Assistance Program.
"These calls may well be for legitimate business offers, but are in no way associated with PP&L's weatherization program," said Florence McNelis, PP&L's regional customer relations representative for northeastern Pennsylvania.
"Typically, we do not solicit customers for the WRAP program by phone," she added. Customers may check the identity of anyone claiming to be associated with the WRAP program by calling PP&L's northeast regional office toll-free at 1-800-621-5008.
PP&L's program provides free home weatherization services — including attic and basement insulation, caulking, weather-stripping and water heater insulation — to low-income and fixed-income customers.
Low-income and fixed-income residents who are interested in receiving free weatherization services for their home through PP&L's WRAP program may call the toll-free number to see if they qualify. WRAP helps people make their homes warmer and reduce their energy bills.
