Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. welcomed about 150 employees to the East Mountain Inn, Wilkes-Barre, on Friday (6/7) for its annual "PP&L: a Community of Volunteers" breakfast celebration. Employees from PP&L's Northeast region who volunteer with schools and nonprofit organizations were invited.

Lou Ramos, manager-Community Affairs for PP&L, said, "Last year, PP&L employees gave more than 100,000 hours of their own personal time back to their communities by participation in volunteer activities. We offer our thanks and recognition to them for helping to make our communities better places to live and work."

Martha Herron, chairperson of the PP&L: a Community of Volunteers steering committee and Northeast region action team, said, "PP&L people traditionally have made service to others a part of their life. PP&L has always encouraged employees to volunteer in the community.

"Now, through our 'PP&L: a Community of Volunteers' organization, employees can get company support for volunteer activities. We hope to encourage even more employees to become actively involved in their communities."

Regional action teams at PP&L coordinate company support for volunteer activities, such as T-shirts and registration fees, bulletin board postings and use of company mail and E-mail to publicize volunteer events.
