Most PP&L Customers Back in Service

Line crews, working non-stop since Saturday evening, have succeeded in restoring service to most Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. customers. As of 7 p.m. Sunday (5/12), only about 3,700 customers remained out of service.

A total of 49,000 customers had their electricity service interrupted as the result of the severe thunderstorms that swept through central and eastern Pennsylvania Saturday evening. High winds did most of the damage, toppling trees and limbs onto power lines. The Harrisburg, Lehigh Valley and Hazleton regions were hardest hit.

Line crews are continuing their restoration work Sunday evening. The majority of those who remain without service, about 3,000 customers, live in an area northeast of Tamaqua that was particularly hard-hit by the storm. The company expects most customers in that area will be back in service by early Monday morning.

Responding to a PP&L request for help under a long-standing mutual aid agreement between the two utilities, PECO Energy sent 10 two- person crews to assist PP&L personnel in restoring service in the Harrisburg area Sunday.
