PP&L Warns of Impostors

Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. advises customers -- especially the elderly -- to be on the lookout for persons trying to enter homes by posing as PP&L employees.

In recent incidents in Hershey, Allentown, Williamsport and in the northern Dauphin County area, persons posed as PP&L representatives in attempting to get into homes.

"Every year we hear complaints of impostors using various tactics to get inside people's homes," said Bernard J. Bujnowski, manager-Customer Contact Operations in Allentown.

"The only PP&L employees who normally would come to your home without being asked would be our uniformed service people and meter readers," Bujnowski said.

"All company employees carry identification cards bearing their names and photographs. They gladly will show this identification to anyone who requests it, upon entering a home. They also will encourage you to call the PP&L office at 1-800 DIAL PPL (1-800-342-5775) to verify that they are actual employees.

"All our service people drive company vehicles marked with the PP&L logo," he added.

Bujnowski pointed out that PP&L employees do not do general electrical repair work in the home.

"If you are not sure someone is from PP&L," he said, "you should not let the person into your home, but should call PP&L at 1-800-DIAL PPL (1-800-342-5775) immediately."
