High winds, sub-zero wind chills and heavy snow had little effect on Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. operations Sunday (1/7).
As of 7 30 p.m., only about 50 of the utility's 1.2 million customers in Central Eastern Pennsylvania were without power.
PP&L's power plants were coping well with the extreme weather. All plants were running with only only minor equipment problems reported. PP&L expects to have adequate generating capacity to meet customer demand, barring unforeseen major equipment problems.
Generation reserves on the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection, the regional power pool to which PP&L belongs, were adequate to meet customer demand.
Line crews were on standby at company service centers throughout the region to respond to reports of problems. Extra personnel were staffing the company's Customer Contact Center, but call volume was light.
Company officials noted that treacherous road conditions might delay response times, and asked customers to call the company only to report a power outage. The number is 1-800-DIAL PPL (342-5775).
Note to Editors. PP&L, will continue to monitor the effects of the Storm on the company's operations, and will issue another news release if the situation changes.
