Employees at Pennsylvania Power & Light Co.'s System Facilities Center in Humboldt hosted 20 students in a "Take Our Daughters/Sons to Work Day" today (4/25).
The event was a variation of the April 25 "Take Our Daughters to Work Day" in which thousands of girls around the world go to work instead of school for the day. The purpose is to help increase the girls' awareness of the career options that are available to them.
For employees and their children, the event began with a welcome from Martha Herron, PP&L community development director in the Hazleton area.
"The program is meant to encourage, inspire and expand young students' career aspirations," said Herron. "At PP&L, we're proud to give these students an opportunity to see a typical day in the work- place. It's quite a learning experience for them."
Group tours were conducted of various departments at the center, including Metering Services, the Chemical Laboratory and the Electrical Test departments.
Participation in the day's events was limited to employees' daughters or sons in grades 4 through 10.
