Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. asks campaign workers to promptly remove any election signs and hardware that were attached to public utility poles for this week's primary election.
"While PP&L congratulates our local primary winners, we remind campaign workers that fastening signs on our power poles is illegal, and we ask that any signs be removed promptly and safely," said John M. Levitski, PP&L community development director in the Wilkes-Barre area. "PP&L workers can be hurt seriously if their climbing hooks strike a nail, tack or staple that has been hammered into a pole."
Unwanted hardware also could tear the rubber equipment worn to protect linemen from electrical shock. Also, string or tape used to put up a sign or poster could obscure utility reference marks, said Levitski.
"In addition, we've had numerous calls from customers about the visual impact of all the signs during this year's election," added Levitski. "In the interest of the general public, we ask that signs be removed as soon as possible."
