PUC Approves Settlement on PP&L's 1994 Energy Cost Rate

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission Friday (2/24))approved a settlement that lets Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. recover $9.7 million in energy costs disallowed by the PUC last April.

The decision will have no immediate effect on the bills of PP&L customers. The company will factor the $9.7 million agreement into its 1995-96 Energy Cost Rate, which takes effect April 1.

PP&L will file its 1995-96 Energy Cost Rate request with the PUC next week. The Energy Cost Rate component of customers' bills is adjusted each year to reflect changes in fuel costs, revenue from power sales to other utilities and the cost of power purchases from non- utility generators and other utilities.

Friday's settlement involves costs PP&L incurred to buy replacement power during a refueling outage at the Susquehanna nuclear power plant. The PUC originally disallowed $15.7 million in replacement power costs. The settlement reduces that amount to $6 million.

PP&L serves 1.2 million customers in 29 counties of Central Eastern Pennsylvania.
