PP&L Sponsors Essay Contest for Area High School Students

Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. is sponsoring an essay contest for students grades 10 through 12 in public, private and parochial schools in its service area. The contest is one of several PP&L activities recognizing Earth Day's 25th anniversary on April 22.

The essay's theme is "Looking to the year 2020: What will my generation do during the succeeding years to make the 50th anniversary of Earth Day a true celebration of our planet?"

Essays must be between 1,000 and 1,500 words, typewritten and double spaced. Entries will be judged on readability, originality, creativity and how well they address the theme.

Entries must be postmarked no later than March 31, 1995. A grand prize of $200 and an honorable mention prize of $100 will be awarded in each grade level. All winners will receive a complimentary subscription to National Wildlife magazine.

All students who submit an essay will receive a certificate of recognition from PP&L.

Teachers of grand prize winners will receive $100 toward purchase of environmental education resources. All teachers of students who enter will receive a sourcebook on environmental careers.
