Prior to the publishing of an article in Friday's (8/18) Allentown newspaper, PP&L Resources Inc. was unaware of a proposal to form a cooperative that would purchase the Allentown-based company.

A newspaper report quotes the general manager of Cooperative Auditing Services in Minnesota as saying he is interested in generating community support for a cooperative that would match the offer to acquire PP&L made by PECO Energy earlier this week.

"We heard nothing about this until we read about it in the newspaper," said William F. Hecht, PP&L chairman, president and chief executive officer. "Since we have no knowledge of the proposal, it would be inappropriate for us to discuss it."
