Media representatives are invited to test drive General Motors' prototype electric "Impact" at Pennsylvania Power & Light Co.'s Lehigh Service Center on Monday (8/7) between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The Impact prototype is a two-seater electric car powered by lead-acid batteries. It accelerates from zero to 60 miles per hour in about eight seconds. It has a range of 70 miles in the city and 90 miles on the highway. The Impact has a controlled top speed of 85 miles per hour.
GM hand-built 50 Impacts for use in a two-year, nationwide demonstration program called the PrEView Drive. In the program, more than 800 drivers in 12 cities throughout the country, including Harrisburg, will test drive an Impact for two weeks. PP&L is co-sponsor of the Harrisburg portion of the PrEView Drive.
PP&L's Lehigh Service Center is located on Hausman Road west of the Route 309 and Tilghman Street intersection. For directions or more information, call Don Bernhard, PP&L's Allentown community development director, at (610) 774-3372; or Jim Burns, PP&L's Bethlehem community development director, at (610) 774-3272.
