Residential Well Test Map

Since the fly ash spill in late August 2005, more than 240 residents in the area surrounding the Martins Creek plant have requested that their wells be sampled by PPL. The wells were tested for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s primary and secondary drinking water list of 16 metals. No tests were done for bacterial contamination since that is not found in fly ash. The most common inorganic constituents that might leach from fly ash under normal hydrogeologic conditions include arsenic, selenium and mercury.

View the map to review the statistics for the residential well sample data. You can select the overall data or by state (New Jersey or Pennsylvania), or by geographic zone. For each set of data, the total number of samples that were collected and analyzed for each of the metals is presented. In addition, the number of times each metal was detected is shown.

When a metal was detected, the number of occurrences of a metal exceeding the applicable state or EPA drinking water standard (MCL or Maximum Contaminant Level) is presented. You also will see the average and maximum concentration of each of the metals. In addition, the applicable drinking water standard for each metal is shown.
