Conestoga Trail
This 15-mile section of the trail follows the east side of Lake Aldred from Lock 12 to Martic Forge. Built by the Lancaster Hiking Club mostly on PPL land, this rugged trail is for experienced hikers. You'll get a great feel for the wilderness and spectacular views of the river hills. The trolley bed section along Pequea Creek provides easier walking. The Mason-Dixon & Conestoga Trails, a descriptive topographic map, is available.
The trail starts at the Martic Forge Hotel, which was once an old trolley station, and passes Colemanville/Martic Forge Covered Bridge. The bridge, a replica of the original bridge built in 1856, is 183 feet long and spans the Pequea Creek. The trail also passes the entrance to Wind Cave. Wind Cave is one of the largest tectonic caves in the eastern United States.
