PPL’s subsidiary in the United Kingdom helps keep children safe

Western Power Distribution, PPL’s electricity delivery subsidiary in the United Kingdom, funds a variety of efforts in Wales and England to keep children safe and improve education.

For example, At Puffins Pre-School Group in southern U.K., WPD provided an all-weather slide for children to enjoy on their playground. After a recent move, the school was not able to afford playground equipment, even though a safe playground surface was already in place.

To promote safety to children in many schools, WPD sponsored a poster contest by contributing prizes — role-playing road safety kits. The kits have a range of model road signs, warning signs and a zebra crossing.

The kit was originally given to pre-schoolers in Exwick, southwestern England, and proved to be such a hit that the company expanded the program to other schools.

“We hope these kits will provide a fun and imaginative way for children to learn about road safety in the classroom,” said Tracy Carr, community liaison officer for WPD. “As an electricity company, safety is an integral part of our business every day, and we are always keen to promote safety of all types to children of all ages. You are never too young to learn.”
