Western Power Distribution (WPD), PPL's electricity distribution company serving 2.6 million customers in England and Wales, has earned the British government's Charter Mark for outstanding customer service five times — WPD the only energy business in the United Kingdom to do so.

Government inspectors completed a rigorous assessment of WPD in more than 60 areas of customer service during 2005. They concluded that WPD had achieved full compliance in the six main customer service categories and delivered service considered to be the best in eight additional categories.

In a letter to WPD, Prime Minister Tony Blair said, "Your achievement clearly demonstrates that customers' needs and aspirations genuinely form the basis for the design and delivery of the services you provide."
