PPL Montana, Bureau of Land Management dedicate new recreation site; Montana governor attends
PPL Montana and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in May 2007 dedicated Montana’s newest camping site on the shores of Hauser Lake near Helena.
White Sandy Recreation Site is the latest of 32 recreation sites PPL Montana has partnered with local, state and federal agencies to develop along the Missouri-Madison River corridor as part of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission relicensing of its nine hydroelectric facilities on the river.
“We’re blessed here in Montana with spectacular outdoor recreational resources,” said Brad Spencer, vice president and chief operating officer, at the ceremony. “White Sandy and the other projects completed by PPL Montana and our partners provide numerous opportunities for Montanans to get out and enjoy these resources.”
The site was a collaborative effort between the company and the Bureau of Land Management, he said.
Among the more than 50 guests at the ceremony held in a pavilion at the new site was Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, who praised the company and the bureau for increasing the recreational opportunities for Montanans to enjoy.
The site has individual campsites, a group camping area, fish-cleaning station, day-use area and boat docks. The Bureau of Land Management announced at the ceremony that it would not charge a fee for using the site during 2007. |
