Environmental Assessment
PPL continually uses an assessment program as one method to fulfill its environmental commitment. Audits and assessments are important parts of PPL’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and monitor and measure environmental performance.
As part of an effective EMS, an organization must assess the adequacy of its programs and procedures and their implementation. Through this process, PPL can determine whether it is meeting federal, state and local regulations as well as corporate policies and commitments.
Because PPL's internal environmental assessment program includes requirements and processes to correct deficiencies uncovered in audits, the program contributes to continual improvement in environmental performance.
Each type of environmental evaluation serves a distinct purpose. Among the evaluations that PPL uses are:
- Environmental audits of management systems.
- Independent environmental audits of compliance activities.
- Baseline assessments of new facilities.
- Environmental aspect analyses (part of our EMS).
- Environmental risk assessments.
- Property transfer assessments (due diligence).
