PPL Corporation has received these awards related to corporate responsibility:

  • The Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters, recognized PPL Electric Utilities in 2008 as a Tree Line USA utility for its tree-pruning program and educational efforts. This is the third consecutive year the company has received this honor.

  • The U.S. Department of the Interior in 2008 gave PPL and its partners in Maine’s Penobscot River Restoration Project the Cooperative Conservation Award, which recognizes groups and individuals who work together to achieve excellence in conservation.

  • PPL Corporation was named one of the 100 best corporate citizens for 2008 by CRO magazine.

  • A PPL Corporation subsidiary’s renewable energy work was named a “Project of the Year” by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The 3.2-megawatt methane-to-energy power generation system in Lancaster County, Pa., is a partnership with PPL Energy Services, the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Turkey Hill Dairy.

  • PPL Electric Utilities won the Utility Planning Network’s 2007 award for Best Metering Data Integration Initiative for the company’s efforts to install advanced metering technology and give customers greater information about how and when they use electricity.

  • PPL Electric Utilities has received 15 J.D. Power and Associates awards
for customer satisfaction among electric utilities in the eastern United
States - more than any other utility in the country. The company holds seven awards for business customer satisfaction, and eight for
    residential customer satisfaction.

  • PPL Electric Utilities and PPL Gas Utilities, rated together, have been the highest ranking utility seven years in a row in the American Customer Satisfaction Index.

  • Western Power Distribution, PPL’s electricity delivery subsidiary in the United Kingdom, earned the government’s Charter Mark award for outstanding customer service again in 2007. WPD has held the award continuously since it was started in 1992. No other electricity distribution company in the U.K. has ever earned the honor.

  • The United Kingdom’s chief electricity regulator, the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets, in 2006 awarded Western Power Distribution nearly $1 million for exemplary service to vulnerable customers and for its social responsibility programs. It was the only company to be awarded for responsibility initiatives, and one of two awarded for work with vulnerable customers.

  • WPD was honored in 2006 for meeting a rigorous asset management certification. The company is the first distribution network operator regulated by the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets to achieve the accreditation known as Publicly Available Specification 55 — a certification standard for asset management. The certificate from the independent risk management organization verifies that WPD has the processes and systems in place to make sure all of the company’s infrastructure; equipment; cables; and power lines, both overhead and underground, are working reliably for the customers’ benefit.

  • PPL Electric Utilities in 2006 received the Pennsylvania Urban and Community Forestry Council’s annual Community Forestry Industry Award for being involved with the council’s Municipal Tree Restoration Program. This program helps communities select the right trees to plant near power lines.

  • PPL Montana received the Outstanding Stewardship of America's Rivers Award for the past four out of six years from the National Hydropower Association for managing environmental and recreational resources along the Missouri and Madison rivers.

  • Jim Abel, PPL’s vice president of Finance and Treasurer, has earned a spot on the “100 Most Influential People in Finance” list published by Treasury & Risk Management magazine. The list, which does not rank individual honorees in any numerical order, is compiled based on an evaluation of candidates nationwide with input from consultants, news media representatives, bankers, academics, trade associations and other executives.

  • The Energy Association of Pennsylvania in December 2007 presented PPL with its Safety Improvement Award. The association confers the award on member companies that show exceptional safety improvement from the previous year and whose employees work 100,000 hours or more per year.
