Report Overview
One of PPL Corporation’s core beliefs is that our business success is linked to the prosperity and quality of life of the communities we serve.
That belief drives our environmental principles of responsibility, stewardship, innovation, compliance and improvement. It drives our involvement in community development, education, volunteerism and public service. And it drives our commitment to human rights, diversity, worker health and safety, and high ethical standards.
Concepts and ideals are important, but unless they are backed by actions they become just words on paper. In this 2007 Responsibility Report, we have highlighted some of the recent examples of how PPL and its 12,600 employees on three continents* are putting principles into action and making a difference in the world.
This is the second year we have reported economic, environmental and social performance factors in a single document in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines. We previously published separate environmental reports, community reports and financial reports.
We developed this report in accordance with GRI-2 guidelines issued in 2002. As an example of PPL putting sustainability principles into action, PPL recently participated in a Global Reporting Initiative international working group that developed a draft of a new set of supplementary performance indicators for the electric utility industry. These new standards are being tested and soon will be used in conjunction with GRI-3 performance indicators for the electric power sector to report more thoroughly on sustainability performance.
The Web pages associated with this site provide a detailed view of how PPL is meeting its responsibility as a corporate citizen. We also have produced a PDF of the report, which you may view by clicking on the link above.
We will continue to refine and improve our reporting process to present the fullest picture of PPL — not only in how we are meeting our responsibilities to the publics we serve, but also in areas where we fall short and need to improve.
