PPL Empowering Educators Grants Program
About the Grants
PPL Corporation continues to look for new ways to team up with school districts in the communities where we live and work. We are all concerned about energy conservation and practicing wise use of energy. We frequently hear about the small things we all can do to make a difference as well as the innovative approaches we can take when it comes to energy efficiency and conservation. Through our grant program, students learn more about energy and the environment and how to conserve and protect precious resources for future generations.
The "Empowering Educators" grant program directs focus toward science, technology, engineering and math projects to encourage action in schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey near company facilities. Through these competitive grants, teachers can receive up to $2,000 funding for educational projects that focus on energy issues like renewable energy demonstrations, energy conservation and the greening of schools.

Grant Awards Announced - Dec. 5, 2011
Mid-Term Report Due - April 22, 2012 (Earth Day)
Project Completion - June 15, 2012
Final Report Due - June 30, 2012
Eligibility
Qualifying K-12 public, private and parochial schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey near PPL facilities are eligible for these competitive grants. Schools are strongly encouraged to partner with an organization, association or business on their projects, but the school must submit the application, receive the grant money and have primary responsibility for the project. Teachers who are awarded grants will be required to submit a mid-year report to PPL to share progress on their project. A final report will also be due at the completion of the project.
Projects
Grants are available for projects that enhance established classroom curricula and academic standards, or support extracurricular activities of school organizations and clubs. Projects MUST focus on one of four major topics: energy conservation, generation of electricity, electrical safety awareness, or environment and ecology.

Transportation costs.

Schools will be asked to make a presentation about their project, student benefits, and its results. If so, any project presentation costs such as slides, transparencies or display materials would be covered.
