Education Support Programs

PPL recognizes the need for family and community involvement to improve education.

Employee Programs

  • Partners in Education. PPL employees from all levels of the company volunteer in local schools to increase student learning and extend the capacity of teachers, as well as to expand their own awareness of the crisis in education. Through in-classroom tutoring and mentoring, career workshops, preschool development and parenting programs, and partnerships with organizations such as Junior Achievement, Explorer Scouting, Adult Literacy Council and the Hispanic American Organizations, volunteers help students become successful learners. Allentown School District partnerships include the Washington, Cleveland, Central, and Mosser elementary schools.
  • Computer Donation. Since 1997, PPL has donated more than 7,000 computers to schools and non-profit organizations.
  • Matching Aid to Colleges, Universities and High Schools. PPL matches employees' monetary gifts to eligible colleges, universities and high schools up to $1,000 per institution and a total of $2,000 annually.
  • Merit Scholarships. PPL supports our employees and retirees by providing four-year scholarships for their children through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

School-to-Career Programs

PPL has been recognized nationally by the Utility Business Education Coalition (UBEC) and the National Employer Leadership Council for our outstanding commitment to workforce readiness.

  • UBEC aims to help communities build effective, sustainable business-education partnerships to prepare students for the increasingly competitive 21st-century economy. It is a national alliance with a local focus established by the nation's electric and natural gas utility companies.
  • Through the Lehigh Valley Business Education Partnership PPL has hosted summer teacher interns for the past 13 years to give them information and knowledge about the business world that they can take back to the classroom.

Pennsylvania Education Improvement Tax Credits

PPL has committed more than $1 million through the Pennsylvania Education Improvement Tax Credit Program to help improve K-12 education in Pennsylvania.
