PPL Names Safety Poster Contest Winners
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (Dec. 17, 2004) - PPL has selected 36 winners from about 5,200 entries in this year’s electrical safety poster contest for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
“This contest, now in its 19th year, is designed to educate students and teachers about the dangers of electricity to help prevent injuries or deaths,” said Meg Welker, PPL education relations director. “One accident as a result of dangerous activity around electric poles and wires is one too many.”
Students used crayons, pencils, paints or computer-generated graphics to depict their electrical safety messages around the theme of “Sammy and the Great Outdoors.” Sammy, a smiling dinosaur, is PPL’s electrical safety mascot for the contest.
Winning students will receive shares of PPL Corporation stock. All participating students will get stickers that convey electrical safety messages.
The designs from the 12 grand prizewinners will be featured on the PPL 2005 safety calendar. In early January calendars will be mailed to schools to encourage electrical safety throughout the year.
The poster winners are all from Pennsylvania, unless noted otherwise.
