About Education Relations

PPL takes seriously its responsibility to be a good corporate citizen. Building education partnerships is one of the ways the corporation makes a difference. PPL is at the forefront of local, state and national efforts to improve schools.

We help educators to gain the knowledge, confidence and resources to address energy and environmental subjects with their students. We also work with students to teach them how to be safe around electrical components and to help them prepare to enter the job market.

Energy Education:
Energy is PPL's "core competency." Today, with all the energy choices and options facing us, it is more important than ever that students and teachers are accurately informed about energy needs, energy realities, energy alternatives, energy conservation and energy-producing industries. Of critical importance to PPL is reaching educators to provide them with the knowledge, resources and confidence to address critical energy issues. Click here for more information.

Environmental Education:
PPL's Environmental Preserves are impressive backdrops to many of our environmental and energy education programs. PPL prides itself on being a conscientious steward of the environment. PPL's mission of being "good stewards of the land entrusted to us" is never more realized than at one of our Environmental Preserves. We are a member of CERES, the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies, and have garnered local, state and national awards for our environmental education and stewardship efforts. We have a responsibility to be a leader in promoting sound environmental policies and responding to teachers' needs for quality environmental education resources. Click here for more information.

Employee Volunteerism - Partners in Education:
Partners in Education (PIE) is the name of our Community of Volunteers initiative that encourages employees to volunteer in educational communities. Volunteerism in the educational arena is a highly visible way for employees to see how we are making a difference. By giving our employees the opportunity — which includes appropriate work-release time — of helping improve education, we are, as a company, making a powerful statement that "PPL will be part of the solution on an issue that impacts all of us." Our employees work side-by-side with and under the guidance of professional educators to make sure their time is used in the most effective ways. Our goal is improving student academic achievement. Workforce Development:
As a society, it's essential that our systems of education provide graduates with the academic, technical and life skills needed to enter the workforce in a seamless way (minimum training and with a high degree of integrity). Businesses use workforce readiness as a primary factor in their decisions to relocate or expand. Very often, the quality of the workforce becomes the economic development driver. A quality education system (from K to 16) that responds to business needs is key to community vitality. PPL professionals work with educators and other corporate leaders to improve workforce readiness in the communities where we do business. On a national level, PPL was influential in the creation of the Utility Business Education Coalition, an alliance of electric and gas utilities that support workforce development programs across the country.
