Welcome to the Nature Notebook.
The first one popped up from behind the screening cover of dense shrubs lining the trail. I stopped to watch quietly as the fawn walked into a woodland clearing. It looked, listened and sniffed for signs of trouble. Within moments a second fawn left its hiding spot, running to join the first. They touched noses, flicked ears and the first fawn began to prance and run. The second fawn chased the first. They circled the clearing and stopped, tails flicking and ears cocked. Then the chase began in reverse with the first fawn chasing the second. Each pranced and kicked up its heels. Then they stopped, investigating something of interest and slowly wandered away. With frequent stops to look, listen and sniff the air, the pair continued out of sight just like a couple of playful kids on a walk through the woods.
