January 4, 2009 - Nature Connections

Welcome to the Nature Notebook.

It’s a new year, so why not make some connections with nature. Spending time in nature is a great way to relieve stress. Take a child for a walk outdoors and discover a whole new universe through that child’s eyes. Revive childhood traditions: start a rock collection, gather different leaves, lie on your back and watch the clouds, collect fireflies at dusk and release them at dawn, pick out patterns in the stars, plant a garden. We all need some connection with nature. It’s part of our heritage. Adults, as much as children, need green time, unstructured time outdoors. Follow your senses and become immersed in nature. Try it alone, with family or friends. Step into your backyard, walk through the neighborhood, or hike in a park. A little time making nature connections will reap more benefits than you might realize.
