Clean Energy

We share the desire for cleaner sources of energy. We invested $1.5 billion dollars to install state-of-the-art scrubbers to reduce the majority of sulfur dioxide at our Pennsylvania coal-fired power plants. We plan to increase generation at hydroelectric dams in Pennsylvania and Montana. PPL has made a 20-year commitment to buy the electricity generated at two wind farms in Pennsylvania and has agreed to buy half of the renewable energy credits produced by a new wind farm in West Virginia. The three projects total 132 megawatts of renewable energy.

Our coal-fired power plants are cleaner today than they were yesterday, and will be cleaner tomorrow than they are today. We have reduced our emissions of key pollutants significantly, but more work remains to be done. We will continue to focus on greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global climate change, trace air emissions, groundwater contamination from natural compounds in coal ash and fine particulate emissions.
