Chairman
PPL Corporation

James H. Miller, chairman of PPL Corporation since 2006, has more than 35 years of diverse experience in the electricity industry.

Miller joined PPL in February 2001 as president of PPL Generation, the company subsidiary that controls or owns about 11,000 megawatts of electrical generation capacity in competitive U.S. markets. He became executive vice president of PPL Corporation in January 2004 and was named chief operating officer in September 2004.

He was named president, a position he held until July 2011, and a member of the company’s board of directors in August 2005. In October 2006, He assumed the additional roles of chairman and CEO, a position he held until November 2011. He also serves as a member of PPL’s Corporate Leadership Council, which sets the strategic direction for the company and its subsidiaries.

In his tenure as the company’s top executive, Miller has led the company’s transformative $14 billion acquisitions of electric utilities headquartered in Kentucky and the United Kingdom — creating a larger and more diverse energy company well-positioned to continue delivering excellent services for customers, attractive returns for shareowners and solid benefits for the communities where it does business.

Before coming to PPL, Miller was executive vice president of USEC Inc., an international supplier of enriched uranium. Previously, he was president of two ABB Group subsidiaries: ABB Environmental Systems and ABB Resource Recovery Systems. He also served as president of the former UC Operating Services. He began his career in the electricity industry at the former Delmarva Power & Light Co.

Miller serves on the executive committee of the Edison Electric Institute and is a member of the boards of the Nuclear Energy Institute and Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited. He also serves on the board of directors of Crown Holdings Inc. of Philadelphia and Rayonier of Jacksonville, Fla.

In the community, he serves on the boards of directors for the Allentown Symphony Orchestra and the Lehigh Valley Partnership, and on the board of trustees for Lehigh Valley Health Network. In addition, he is part of the leadership team of Education 2020! — a group of business and community leaders dedicated to improving education in Allentown, Pa.

A native of Wilmington, Del., Miller received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Delaware. He also served in the U.S. Navy nuclear submarine program.

PPL Corporation, headquartered in Allentown, Pa., through its subsidiaries, owns or controls about 19,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity and natural gas to about 10 million customers in the United States and the United Kingdom.
