- PPL Electric Utilities has received 17 J.D. Power and Associates awards for customer satisfaction among electric utilities in the eastern United States - no other utility in the country has more. The company holds nine awards for business customer satisfaction. The company has earned the top honor for residential customer satisfaction in the eastern region of the U.S. eight times, in 1999 and from 2001-2007.
- LG&E and KU have received 15 J.D. Power and Associates awards for customer satisfaction among electric utilities in the Midwest region of the United States. The companies hold seven awards for business customer satisfaction and earned the top honor for residential customer satisfaction in the Midwest region of the U.S. eight times, in 1999 and 2000 and from 2002-2007.
- The SERC Reliability Corporation presented its inaugural SERC President’s Award in 2011 to LG&E and KU for superior reliability performance and helping set the quality standard for SERC’s 67 members and more than 250 registered entities.
- The United Way of the Bluegrass recognized Kentucky Utilities with Community Giving Awards in 2011 in three categories: Top Medium-sized Company Award, Building a Better Community Award, and Champions of Leadership Award.
- PPL, McCarl's Inc. (a PPL mechanical services and contracting company) and the Central Pennsylvania Building Trades Council received in 2009 a Gold Star Zero Injury Safety Award for achieving more than 1 million man-hours without a recordable injury at PPL's Brunner Island power plant.
- The Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection presented its inaugural Environmental Pacesetter Award in 2010 to LG&E and KU for demonstrating exceptional environmental stewardship.
- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency named LG&E and KU a 2011 Partner of the Year in recognition of the utilities’ ENERGY STAR® New Homes Program.
- Junior Achievement of Central Pennsylvania named PPL Corporation as its Business of the Year, noting the company's support of programs that inspire young people to learn about business, free enterprise and entrepreneurship. PPL has been a supporter of Junior Achievement of Central Pennsylvania since 2001.
- James H. Miller, PPL's chairman, president and chief executive officer, was named on the National Safety Council’s annual list of CEOs Who “Get It." The list recognizes corporate leaders from all industries who understand the importance of engaging employees in a strong, effective safety program.
- PennFuture gave PPL Electric Utilities a Green Power award in September 2008 for the company's efforts to promote energy efficiency and help customers take greater control of their electric use. In presenting the award, PennFuture, one of the state’s leading environmental advocacy organizations, praised the company for its online Energy Analyzer, which provides customers with daily electricity usage information, helps them analyze their home’s energy use, and provides tips to save.
- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency gave PPL its Coal Combustion Products Partnership enhanced utilization award in July 2008 for beneficially using 100 percent of the coal ash produced at its Brunner Island and Montour power plants in Pennsylvania. PPL is one of the few coal-fired generation companies to be ahead of the EPA’s voluntary recommendation to increase the percentage of coal ash that companies use beneficially to 50 percent by 2012.
- The Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters, recognized PPL Electric Utilities in 2011 as a Tree Line USA utility for its tree-pruning program and educational efforts. This is the sixth consecutive year the company has received this honor.
- The Louisville Urban League presented its Champion of Diversity Award in 2010 to LG&E and KU for its commitment to diversity in all aspects of the company’s operations and in the community.
- PPL's Pennsylvania-based electricity business and former natural gas delivery businesses combined placed first in 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002 and 2001 in the American Customer Satisfaction Index.
- Western Power Distribution, PPL's electricity delivery affiliate in the United Kingdom, is the only energy company to earn the coveted Charter Mark Award – the government's accolade for customer service. WPD has held the award since it was first issued in 1992.
- PPL Corporation was named one of the 100 best corporate citizens for 2008 by CRO magazine.
- A PPL Corporation subsidiary’s renewable energy work was named a “Project of the Year” by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The 3.2-megawatt methane-to-energy power generation system in Lancaster County, Pa., is a partnership with PPL Energy Services, the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Turkey Hill Dairy.
- More than a dozen PPL facilities are certified as Star sites under the Voluntary Protection Program run by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
- PPL Montana's electric generation business earned the "Outstanding Stewardship of America's Rivers Award" by the National Hydropower Association in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006 for its program for operations, recreation, fisheries, wildlife, habitat, water quality and cultural resources at eight of its hydroelectric dams.
- The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program of the U.S. Green Building Council awarded a gold rating for PPL's new office building in Allentown, Pa., in 2004.
